The Government of Uganda’s Ministry of Water and Environment is implementing a number of policy reforms through its Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM). These reforms include the adoption of the principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and Catchment Based Water Resources Management (CBWRM) through the preparation of Catchment Management Plans to support investments in improving access to water supply and sanitation, water resources management and development in Uganda.
The Ministry of Water and Environment contracted Zutari Africa Limited to prepare Water Resources Development and Management Plans for Sezibwa and Akweng Catchments within the Kyoga Water Management Zone. MEIR is providing in country sub-consultancy services to Zutari specifically, undertaking the water resources assessment, strategic social and environment assessment, guiding the formation of the catchment management organizations and identification of projects for future implementation.
