The Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (PREEEP), implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), aims to improve access to clean energy in rural and peri-urban areas.

Under this framework, MEIR Engineering and Research Ltd, in association with AKUT Umweltschutz Ingenieure Bukard und Partner, Germany, carried out energy needs assessments to determine cooking energy demand, evaluated feedstock availability and characteristics, developed feasibility designs for bio-latrine biogas plants, performed detailed economic and financial analyses to assess viability, conducted environmental assessments for biofertilizer utilization, prepared detailed design reports, developed cost estimates, and produced design drawings for the proposed biogas systems.
