Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement has experienced an influx of refugees in recent years, leading to increased pressure on the existing water supply infrastructure. The current systems, originally designed for a smaller population, are unable to meet the rising water demand, with production currently estimated at only 58% of the required capacity. The settlement, particularly Ranch 1, faces operational challenges in maintaining reliable and adequate water provision for both refugee and host communities.
MEIR has reviewed existing data and conducted socio-economic surveys, assessed water demand for both refugee and host communities, evaluated existing water resources, performed feasibility analysis of alternative solutions, developed preliminary designs for a sustainable and climate-resilient water supply system, assessed infrastructure development options, and recommended the most viable solution to ensure adequate and reliable water provision.
